This is a monthly class. See the dates and lessons below. Choose the class that looks most intriguing to you and complete the form at the bottom of the page to sign up. You do not have to come to all the classes, the intention is that you pick and choose what makes sense for you and your needs.

These classes are designed to give you the education to make wiser decisions, understand your healthcare better, and feel confident managing (and improving!) your blood sugar issues regardless of what may come about in everyday life.

 

About the classes

Join our monthly Diabetes Education Class if you are an individual newly diagnosed with diabetes, looking for an education refresher, or perhaps you’ve been living with diabetes for a while and haven't felt like you have a good grasp on what diabetes is and what you can do to best care for yourself.

We also welcome caregivers, spouses, and partners supporting those with diabetes!

This class covers a variety of topics with enough time set aside at the end of each presentation to ask questions, whether those are specific to the presentation, or something you’ve been wondering about and would like answered.

Where and When are the classes?

All classes are in person at our office located in Columbia, MO; there is an online option as well!

Classes are the first Thursday of every month from 4:00-5:00pm CDT.

About the presenter

Lynn Eaton, CDCES, RD, LD

Lynn Eaton is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. She has helped hundreds of people with diabetes in the beginning stages and years into living with diabetes.

Lynn is caring, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable about how to heal your body through nutrition. In addition to teaching this class, Lynn provides individual sessions and is an adjunct teacher for the University of Missouri Dietetics Program.

 

Who is this class for?

Anyone living with any type of diabetes, including prediabetes, borderline diabetes, and insulin resistance. Ages 18 and up are welcome! Caregivers and spouses are also welcome to sign up for the class to better learn how to help support their loved one.

 

Is this group covered by insurance?

Although the presenter of the group, Lynn Eaton, is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, we are not an accredited Medicare or Medicaid facility. What this means is our class is self-pay only, AND, we have the ability to flex the content to fit the needs of the class and provide you with the education we feel is relatable and important for you to know.

Our diabetes class is designed to provide you with bite-sized pieces of information that you can take home and implement into daily life right away without feeling overwhelmed or confused.

We try to make this class affordable to all people since we are not covered by insurance. Therefore the current group rate is set to $35 per person for one class. There is no deposit, commitment, or hidden fees. Come to as many classes as you’d like, they will all provide different information!

  • Having a chronic health condition, like diabetes, can feel like a lifelong commitment. This class explores meeting you where you are In caring for your diabetes.

  • I just can’t face one more decision! I hate choosing what to make for meals! Why Is this so difficult? This class offers ways to decrease decision-making fatigue when It comes to making meal decisions & offers practical tips for planning meals.

  • What should my blood sugar numbers be? What about my A1c? What about my other blood work/labs? This class seeks to answer those questions by using the ADA’s recommendations, along with why recommendations may differ.

  • In this class, we’ll take on the sometimes Herculean task of finding food at the grocery store. We’ll also discuss choosing between different brands and which options are best for regulating blood sugar.

  • What should someone with diabetes, or blood sugar Issues, know when It comes to movement? We’ll learn how to plan for movement appropriately and how to fuel for It. We’ll also discuss If the benefits of exercise are as good as they say.

  • Feeling In over your head when It comes to cooking? In this class, we explore more ways to help you feel more confident and competent preparing food.

  • With so many different types of diabetes medications available, It can feel overwhelming. This class discusses different types of medications and why your doctor may recommend them for you.

  • Ever wondered how to tell If pumpkin, potatoes, or parsnips are In season? This class provides Information on picking out produce and making meals that make sense for the season AND help keep blood sugar steady!

  • Intuitive Eating Is a hot topic these days! Learn more about what Intuitive eating Is, what the research shows with regards to those with diabetes, and how you might apply It In your own eating.

  • With so many different types of diabetes medications available, It can feel overwhelming. This class discusses different types of medications and why your doctor may recommend them for you.
